FORMER NPP CHAIRMAN JAKE OBETSEBI IS DEAD


The former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Jake Obetsebi Lamptey is dead. Reports indicate that he died on early Sunday morning in London at the age of 70. Jake, as he was affectionately called, is reported to have died early Sunday morning in London where he was receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment.

Jake held several ministerial posts during the Kufuor administration, including Minister of Information, Minister of Tourism and Modernization of the Capital, Foreign Affairs and Diasporan Relations as well Chief of Staff.

Jake was the National Campaign Manager of the victorious NPP during the 2000 Presidential elections. Until his death, Jake had maintained a quiet life since losing the NPP chairman slot he won in 2010 to now suspended chairman, Paul Afoko. Paul Afoko polled 2,032 while Jake could only manage 66 votes in the 2014 race contested by two others, Messrs Stephen Ntim and Fred Oware.

The celebrated media practitioner and manager was also a past president of the Advertising Association of Ghana and had several publications to his credit.
